Kindergarteners learned about African animals and the importance of animal styled masks in African culture.  They chose an animal from Africa for their masks that they created out of paper plates and construction paper.

Easter Eggs 05/02/2011

In this project kindergarteners drew oval shapes as large as they could on a piece of paper.  After they cut out the shapes, they tore up tissue paper to glue onto it.  Once that dried, we talked about different kinds of lines.  They decorated their eggs by drawing these lines across them.  They turned out so cute!

Rainbows 03/18/2011

Kindergarteners learned about the colors of the rainbow in this crayon resist project.  We talked about the colors and their order.  We also talked about finding a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!  In their paintings, some students drew pots of gold and some drew other things they would want at the bottom of the rainbow.

Students created cards for Valentine's Day using their thumbs.  We learned that putting two thumbprints together can make a heart!

Kindergarteners learned about the properties of chalk pastels in this fun project!  We colored with chalk on the edges of a paper stencil.  After placing that stencil on our art paper, we smeared the colors off the stencil and onto our papers.  This made wonderful shapes and overlapping designs!

First graders learned about origami and architecture as they created paper houses.  We talked about the different features and decorations that buildings can have.  Kindergartners made evergreen trees decorated for the holidays.  The houses and trees were put together to create a winter village to celebrate the season!  I should also note that Jr. High students helped me make snow flakes during their free time :)

Kindergarteners are learning that they can draw anything by using the shapes they already know.  In this simple lesson, we had four steps drawn on the board.  Students had to explain the new shapes in each step along with their size and placement.  They then drew their own turkeys and colored them in for Thanksgiving.

Shape Collage 09/17/2010

During one of our first kindergarten projects this year, we talked about shapes and colors.  Students made sure to choose a variety of shapes with different colors for their collages.  They also used glue sticks and learned about overlapping their shapes in their artwork.

Mosaic Letters 03/13/2010
