Bookmaking and Marbling 05/25/2011
Third graders created folded books in this project. First they created the cover of their books by marbling matboard using shaving cream and liquid tempera paint. They then folded one long piece of paper to create their pages. When they glued their pages into their books, they also added a string to tie it shut. Red Cross Poster Contest 04/06/2011
The American Red Cross held a poster contest for students in grades K-3. The students were asked to design posters that expressed the importance of seat belt safety. One winner from each grade level was chosen. We decided to take on this project in art class. We talked about how to travel safely in cars and how to express those ideas on paper. The Red Cross received over 600 entries from schools all over the area! They said it was a tough job narrowing it down to only four winners, because there were so many fantastic artworks submitted. I am excited to say that one of our very own second graders was chosen as a winner! Her poster is pictured to the left, and there will be many more copies put out around the area during Child Passenger Safety Week! We also had a runner up for the third grade level who received a certificate for his achievement. Congratulations to our amazing Dee-Mack Primary Artists!!! Value 03/23/2011
Value tells us how light or dark a color is. Third grade students practiced making ranges of value as they filled in interesting spaces created by the shape of thier hands and straight lines. Ancient Chinese Scrolls 02/25/2011
Did you know that New Years happened on February 3? And that the year is 4708? In art class, we learned about the Chinese calendar and the importance of the New Year celebrations that occur. Every grade level joined in to make fun projects that celebrate the Chinese New Year or Chinese culture. Third grade made ancient Chinese scrolls. Animal Bowls 12/22/2010
Students created bowls and turned them into an animal of their choice. We used paper mache, balloons, popsicle sticks, and newspapers to create these projects. A few students ran out of time during this project, so they came up with interesting solutions. Instead of creating legs and a head, they created bowls with fitted lids! Glue Resist 11/22/2010
Students drew onto black paper using glue. Once the glue dried, they colored in the empty spaces with chalk pastels. Proportional Portraits 09/17/2010
3rd grade learned about the proportions of the face as they drew their portraits. Some students drew themselves while others drew interesting characters. Greek Pottery 04/25/2010
During this project students learned about Greek pottery and how to create coil bowls. Positive/Negative Space 03/13/2010
Students learned about the different spaces in a picture. Positive space is our main character(s) in our pictures. Negative space is our background. In this project, students used both spaces in an interesting way. Radial Symmetry 03/05/2010
Students learned about radial symmetry during this project and how it goes around in a circle. They also learned to create multiple copies of one image (we used names) using paper and pencil lead. |
